Is it just me, or are these things really as useless as they look?

What with my contact lenses and all, I am much more comfortable wearing sunglasses in the typical Southern California daytime than not. SunBlades look like they wouldn't be any use at all, but maybe they'll send me a free pair to try so I can be convinced.
